Changes to the Emergency Services Levy (ESL)

From 1 July 2017, clients will no longer pay ESL as part of their insurance premiums.

In its place a new property-based levy will be collected alongside local council rates. This is a fairer funding system which will see all NSW property owners contribute to the cost of emergency services instead of only those who choose to buy insurance.

From 1 July 2017 the ESL will be removed and replaced with the Emergency Services Property Levy (ESPL), which will be paid alongside local council rates and shown as a separate item on rates notices.

The Government has indicated this change will not reduce the funds available to the Emergency Services in NSW.
